Social Empowerment = All sections of society having equal power to take decisions, live with dignity, and access equal opportunities.

🤝 Empowering Different Social Groups

♀️ WOMEN

"Empowering women = Empowering the entire family."

➡️ Challenges: Female infanticide, education gaps, economic dependence.

Key Government Schemes:

  1. Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (2015) → Reduces child sex ratio gap → Ministries involved: Women & Child, Health, HRD → Started in 100 low-CSR districts

  2. Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana (2016) → Cash benefits for pregnant women (19+ years) → Encourages good nutrition, safe childbirth

  3. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana → Saving scheme for girl child → High interest + tax benefits

  4. One-Stop Centre Scheme → Legal, psychological, medical help to women victims → For public/private/family/workplace violence


🏛️ POOR & MARGINALIZED SECTIONS

Goal = Access to basic education, livelihood, and dignity

Major Schemes:

  1. Jan Dhan Yojana (2014) → Financial inclusion: Bank A/c, credit, insurance, pensions → 15 million accounts opened on Day 1

  2. MUDRA Yojana → Loans < Rs. 10 lakh for small business/startups

  3. Skill India Mission (2015) → Train 40 crore people by 2022 → Key initiative: Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)

  4. Scholarships for SCsPost-Matric Scholarship (PMS-SC) - Since 1944 → Other schemes: Pre-Matric, Top Class, UGC Fellowship

  5. Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY) → Focus: Villages with >50% SC population


🏋️‍♂️ SENIOR CITIZENS

Aim: Dignified and self-sufficient life

Important Schemes:

  1. Atal Pension Yojana → Pension up to ₹5,000/month for unorganised workers (join before age 40)

  2. Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana → Free assistive devices for BPL senior citizens → Implemented by ALIMCO

  3. Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana → Pension + old age income security


♿️ PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (PwD)

Goal: Independence + Participation in society

Key Schemes:

  1. Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme → Financial support to NGOs for rehab

  2. Accessible India Campaign → Barrier-free access in built environment + IT + transport


⛏ Scheduled Tribes

Challenges: Identity loss, isolation, neglect

Govt Initiatives:
